Involvement in quality matters
The SU’s primarily aim is to uphold students’ rights. In 2012 the SU planned and hosted national conference on quality assurance in Iceland’s HEIs. Representatives from all HEIs in Iceland participated.
In 2013 the SU planned and hosted national conference on quality assurance and employability of Icelandic students, followed by foundation of LÍS, Landssamtök íslenskra stúdenta (Icelandic national student union in higher education). LÍS’s role is to safeguard students’ right at national and international level as well as coordinate students’ action in quality matters within HEIs in Iceland. LÍS also works for students' interests internationally as a part of the Nordic cooperation - Nordic Ordförandemöte (NOM) and the European Students Union (ESU). LÍS will unite Icelandic students in safeguarding students’ rights and coordinate their measures. All Icelandic university students, nearly 25.000, are represented by LÍS, independent organisation run by students.
